Tom Sykes retains his seat with the BMW Motorrad World Superbike team for a second year, and is joined for the 2020 season by Northern Irelands seasoned campaigner, Eugene Laverty.

The full factory effort continues to be run by the vastly experienced & highly respected team owner Shaun Muir, via his company SMR (Shaun Muir Racing) based at Guisborough in the N E of England).

Last year, Tom Sykes the 2013 World Superbike Champion, had a strong debut year on the factory BMW S1000RR, which was still early in the development stage, to eventually finish eighth in the final standings. Four podium finishes (2nd at Misano & Donington Park, with 3rds at LagunaSeca & Magny Cours) plus Pole Position at Donington were the seasons best results.

Tom’s expectations for this year are far higher, and whilst still continuing to develop the bike, will be targeting regular podium placings, including wins.

Partnering Yorkshire man Sykes, is Eugene Laverty. The Monaco based, Ulsterman brings a wealth of experience to the team (Runner up in 2013 World Superbike Championship, & two times runner up in the World Supersport Championship) and will keen to be challenging for podiums from the start.

Eugene has won 13 World Superbike pre 2020, but the last couple of seasons have been hit by injury. A broken pelvis in Thailand in 2018, with two broken wrists last year after crashing during practice at Imola.
